The Rogers Historical Museum is sponsoring a window display contest in the downtown Rogers business district in conjunction with the opening of a new exhibit,
A Parade of Apple Blossoms
.
Window displays should be apple blossom and apple themed, but can also incorporate a spring theme, and must include an 8.5”x 11” poster about the contest with a QR code linking to the contest voting site. The poster will be delivered to your business by the Museum the week of April 3. Beyond these guidelines, we encourage you to be creative and incorporate your own business model into your design. While we are calling it a window display contest, it is not strictly limited to windows. If you have another outdoor area that would work better, feel free to use it. The only requirement is that people have to be able to walk by and see it from outside even if the business is closed.
Displays must be completed by Thursday, April 13. Museum staff will come around on April 14 to take photographs of each display to be posted on the Museum’s website for the online people’s choice voting. Voting will be open to the public from April 15 through April 30 so we ask that you leave the displays up at least until the end of April. Voting will be limited to one vote per window, per email address. The winner will receive a $500 Visa gift card and will be announced May 1 on the Museum’s social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter).
To enter, complete this entry form
by March 31.
About the Exhibit
“A Parade of Apple Blossoms” is set to open on Saturday, April 15th. The exhibit commemorates the 100th anniversary of the first Apple Blossom Festival held in Rogers in 1923. The Apple Blossom Festivals of the 1920s were a grand celebration of the apple industry in Northwest Arkansas and were also a chance to showcase the beauty of Arkansas in springtime, and the prosperity and progress of a growing region. The exhibit will take visitors through the elaborate costumes, contests, tours, and more that turned downtown Rogers and the surrounding area into “A Parade of Apple Blossoms” each spring. One of the elements of the Apple Blossom Festivals was a window decorating contest, which added to the festive atmosphere downtown. Attached is a photo from one of the 1920s window displays and a 1927 newspaper article from the
Rogers Democrat
which provides details about that year’s windows.
