Teacher Enrichment Series
Teacher enrichment programs explore topics of local interest. Each session offers in-depth information on the selected topic and gives educators ideas on how to engage their students in the subject. These programs meet professional development credits required by the state of Arkansas. New program topics are offered annually.
Dates for Teacher Enrichment Programs are offered throughout the year and can be scheduled for groups of educators as needed. For more information or to schedule, contact Adult Programs Educator Monte Harris at [email protected] or (479) 621-1154.
Current Programs:
Stirring Stories of the Civil War in Northwest Arkansas - A workshop devoted to the study of the Civil War in Northwest Arkansas. This program uses the current Museum exhibit of the same name to present documented overlapping accounts from the perspective of Northwest Arkansas civilian families. Group discussion focuses on how Civil War history can be used to introduce cultural, economic, geographical, and political subjects in the classroom. Program participants can also discuss ways in which to urge their students to think in terms of leadership efforts to help rebuild communities caught in the destructive aftermath of war and other natural or man-made disasters.
Early Stories of Benton County - A walking tour designed to share the early history of Benton County with an emphasis on the town of Bentonville. The tour will enhance the perception of American history by focusing on local historical sites and the documented stories of the people who built Bentonville. Walking along the old roadways and exploring the old places can spark new ideas that we hope will ultimately enrich the classroom experience for both the teacher and the student.
