Programs for Your Class

Programs (Options for all Ages)

The Museum offers educational programs to schools throughout Northwest Arkansas, as well as to home school groups and day cares.  Topics range from those of local interest such as the history of the apple growing industry in Benton County to broader themes such as Arkansas State symbols.

Due to COVID-19, Museum programs for the 2020-2021 school year will be presented virtually by Museum Education staff through a series of videos. Each video is 20 minutes or less. If you are interested in receiving the virtual programs, sign up here. The programs will be available through a Google Drive link, with links for each program sent out by Ashley beginning Monday, October 19th.

Click here to view descriptions of the programs being offered for the 2020-2021 school year and the grades they are recommended for, as well as listings of the Arkansas Department of Education curriculum objectives met by each one.

A to Z in the Ozarks Story Boxes (Recommended for Grades K-2 & ESL)

The A-Z in the Ozarks loan box program is a series designed to enrich basic learning in the classroom.  The boxes can be used to supplement classroom programs and are designed to be used by the teacher.  There are a total of 26 boxes and each one meets Arkansas history curriculum standards, while also crossing the boundaries of other curriculums such as math, science, and language arts.

The A-Z in the Ozarks program was scheduled to be available staring in January 2021. However, due to rising COVID-19 cases they will not be available for checkout for the spring semester. Check back for updates on when they will be made available.  To read a preview of the box topics, click here.

Teacher Enrichment Series

Teacher enrichment programs explore topics of local interest. Each session offers in-depth information on the selected topic and gives educators ideas on how to engage their students in the subject. These programs meet professional development credits required by the state of Arkansas. New program topics are offered annually.

Dates for Teacher Enrichment Programs are offered throughout the year and can be scheduled for groups of educators as needed. Contact Monte Harris by email or at 479-621-1154 for more information.

Current Programs:

Stirring Stories of the Civil War in Northwest Arkansas - A workshop devoted to the study of the Civil War in Northwest Arkansas. This program uses the current Museum exhibit of the same name to present documented overlapping accounts from the perspective of Northwest Arkansas civilian families. Group discussion focuses on how Civil War history can be used to introduce cultural, economic, geographical, and political subjects in the classroom. Program participants can also discuss ways in which to urge their students to think in terms of leadership efforts to help rebuild communities caught in the destructive aftermath of war and other natural or man-made disasters.

Early Stories of Benton County - A walking tour designed to share the early history of Benton County with an emphasis on the town of Bentonville. The tour will enhance the perception of American history by focusing on local historical sites and the documented stories of the people who built Bentonville. Walking along the old roadways and exploring the old places can spark new ideas that we hope will ultimately enrich the classroom experience for both the teacher and the student.
